1-ASUS Chromebook CX1 Laptop

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

Today i'm going to be reviewing the asus c536 now this chromebook does also go by the name of cx-1 so whether you call it the asus c536 or the cx-1 they are the same device and this is a new chromebook that just released not too long ago at best buy and i'm gonna let you know what i think about it i'm gonna let you know the pros and the cons of it and we're gonna get into a lot of details in this review.

Price & Specification:

This chromebook is a 15.6 inch screen on this bad boy and you're not going to see a lot of chromebooks with a large screen like that in fact the last one i could remember is a lenovo chromebook that was very very premium and outside of that a lot of those 15-inch chromebooks are lower in price and also lower end quality

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

so this chromebook it gives you a lot of bang for your buck as far as performance and a lot of things you see in it so this has an 11th gen i3 processor it has 8 gigabytes of ram so you're going to see a lot of good performance on this chrome os typically doesn't need a lot of processing power

but this has plenty of processing power for all types of different tasks and it has a nice 1080p screen it's about 250 units of brightness so there's a lot to like when you just look at the spec's sheet and there are a lot of pros but of course to get down to that 570 dollar price point they did have to make some compromises.

Design:

Now if we look at the ports on this device you're not gonna see many compromises there so you're gonna see two usbc ports one here one on the other side you're going to see a usb a port a headphone jack and you're going to see up and down in the volume and the power button now on the other side you're going to see that other usb c port here you're going to see hdmi and you're also going to see an sd card slot

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

which is good to see as well now on the back of this you're gonna see really big holes for fans there are some fans in here you can hear them sometimes not all the time it's not super loud and obnoxious you're gonna see all these screws here by the way you can't open up this laptop i'm gonna show you a picture here

of what the insides look like so not a huge thing i at least wanted to show this for some of you who are thinking about opening it up you just have to take off all those
screws and you have to carefully pry it open right here on the keyboard deck but i will warn you okay this is for professionals

i don't recommend that everyone does that and technically that may void your warranty in the eyes of asus now this right here i believe it's made of aluminum it's a very very sturdy material on the screen so you're gonna see a really nice hinge it's awesome the hinge i mean it just feels great it feels extremely sturdy there

But you're gonna see sort of a plasticky build on the back now i really really didn't like that the other thing i wasn't a huge fan of is the bezels so you're gonna notice right here you're gonna see there are really really big bezels here on the screen

So not only do you have the bezel on the bottom of the screen you also have this part here on the frame and because they're so big i think aces wanted to cover them up a little so they put them under the keyboard deck whenever you're actually pulling the device out putting it on your lap and things like that

But that's a problem because you have this right here and you have this whole bottom part sort of poking into your legs when you're using it on your lap so it's not a huge deal i didn't notice it most of the time but just be aware that the screen is poking out a little bit and sometimes instead of feeling the bottom of the laptop you will feel the screen on your legs

Now i'm also not a fan of this white either because this white can get dirty now luckily it is fairly cleanable so my daughter did put her little spaghetti hands on this and it got a little bit red on here but i was able to quickly wipe it off and it did go away pretty nicely but it's pretty easy to scuff up white so i don't really like that choice.

Keyboard:

I really do like the black on the inside but this is sort of a smooth feel on the keyboard deck again it feels a little bit cheap in my opinion and it can get a lot of fingerprints on here but one thing i absolutely love is the keyboard itself it has a ton of travel on the keys now asus says it's 1.4 millimeters of travel and it feels amazing

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

When i'm typing on this so i got a phenomenal typing experience using this device it also has a number pad which is a big bonus for some of you that really want a number pad just keep in mind that because of that they had to shift everything to the left they just shift the trackpad off the center of the laptop some of you are gonna hate that

and i believe they made the keys just a little bit smaller on the laptop now for a 15.6 inch laptop i really wouldn't want them to make smaller keys but i feel like they did even though i didn't really notice it my typing accuracy was almost flawless on this device so i had a great typing experience but the quiches feel ever so slightly smaller than a normal keyboard key i think that's partially

Because of this number pad so keep that in mind now again you see the vents here you see great ventilation on this so heat was not really much of an issue when i was using this keep in mind there.

Display:

look at the display and for those of you who want a nice big screen this is it it's a 15.6 inch display it's a 1920 by 1080 screen it looks great it's got about 250 nits on the brightness on it so it's not super bright it's not something i would use in the absolute direct sunlight outside

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

but it is usable for me i found i was using it around 75 to 100 most of the time but it worked great i didn't really notice a lot of issues everything looked very clear and crisp because the hinge is very sturdy it was really great to use it in tablet mode as well and i love those android gestures swiping stuff away

and i was able to watch videos on it i was able to do some reading on it and scroll through the news and do the stuff i do every day and everything looked really really good the screen was not a big hindrance to menow if you want a brighter screen or a little bit of a better quality screen

you could look at something like the acer spin 713 or you could look at something like the galaxy chromebook 2. but this screen was good enough for me and i didn't have a lot of issues with it now where this laptop really shines.

Performance:

This has a good screen and it has great performance this has 11 chin processors in it and you can go from i3 to i5 to i7 right now i only see the i3 model listed at best buy and it has 8 gigabytes of ram so the i3 models what i tested and everything was buttery smooth it also has xe graphics now they do list them as intel graphics just plain old boring intel uhd type of stuff

But in reality they are the lower end version of xe graphics but they still work great it works better than last year's models with the 10th gen i3 processors so the graphics portion of this laptop is great i can't tell you how many times i had countless tabs open and had no hiccups because

I really never had any hiccups with it i even edited video and i had issues with this on my galaxy chromebook 2 but on this laptop i was able to put two or three tracks of video in at the same time put them on top of each other and i didn't have any hiccups when it transitioned between the two or three tracks

So video editing was smooth in linux through caden live and again my galaxy chromebook 2 had a lot of issues whenever i put two or three tracks in at the same time also with this having nvme storage and starting out at 128 gigabytes the ssd was very very smooth.

Battery Life:

This laptop also has phenomenal battery life this has eight to ten hours i'd say in normal use now you might get six if you're doing some crazy heavy stuff i normally got around eight or nine hours of battery life it's a 57 watt hour battery it's a 3 cell battery but it's very very good as far as battery life and  i had no issues with it and i was very surprised

Asus Chromebook CX-1
Asus Chromebook CX-1

when i heard these speakers these are very high quality speakers so they don't just have the harman kardon name they actually have really good sound quality these speakers were loud they sounded great and pretty good for the price so when you see these speakers they're not going to be the best in the world but they are some of the best i've heard out of a 600 or less chromebook.

2-Lenovo Ideapad 1i

we're looking at the latest generation of the IdeaPad 1i now just to be clear the I stands for Intel so if you see a one eye it's an Intel variant if you just see the number one it's a AMD variant the configuration in particular right here is rocking Intel's n6000 Pentium silver series processor

Lenovo Ideapad 1i
Lenovo Ideapad 1i
we have a measly four gigabytes of ddr4 memory and an even smaller 128 gigabytes of solid state drive storage now we do get Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5 standards on board and this is a 15 inch laptop with a full HD display now keeping in mind that this is a very budget-friendly laptop

we're gonna keep things in relevance so we're not going to compare it against the most high-end laptop we're gonna see if this offers everything you'd expect from a budget laptop and if there's anything noteworthy in particular.

Ports:

Lenovo Ideapad 1i
Lenovo Ideapad 1i

The decent variety of ports on either side of this laptop so on one side you have a DC charging port a USB a 3.0 port a HDMI 1.4 port a basic USBC Port you also have a headphone jack on the other side you will find one more USB a port though it is 2 2.0 and you have interestingly enough a full-size SD card reader a feature that's often not found on laptops several times more expensive than this one

So can't complain the bottom of this laptop is pretty standard stuff so you have a plastic surface finish you'll notice you have a large air intake vent which is semi pointless because you don't actually have a cooling fan on this device I guess it's mostly there for Passive Cooling and then on either corner at the bottom.

Trackpad & Keyboard:

You have a relatively small trackpad proportioning to the rest of the body however the good news is that despite having a plastic surface finish it's a very tactile trackpad there isn't a ton of flex and I generally find that using it is actually quite bearable in fact I'd say it's one of the better track pads you'd find on a laptop in general the keyboard here is more or less in line with the rest of the IdeaPad Series

Lenovo Ideapad 1i
Lenovo Ideapad 1i
So you have those well-labeled keycaps with those semi-rectangular designs you have a decent amount of spacing between each keycap though I hate that split in half shift key with the slash button it's a huge design flaw in my opinion you also have the inclusion of a 10 keypad since this is the 15 inch variant though you still don't get any sort of backlighting

But I suppose that's fair enough now as far as the typing experience goes it's still pretty darn good though I do feel like there is a very slight drop in quality this year's models feels like it has a little bit less key travel so it gives it a more shallow feeling but still I think this is probably the best budget keyboard I've seen on a laptop.

Display:

you have a single mechanism hinge over here and the impressive the part is that you can do a near 180 degree tilt now as far as the display fitting goes you do have a standard plastic lip all around though you have a relatively thin chin at the bottom fairly narrow bezels that are not with modern day standards and a thin enough forehead at the center

Lenovo Ideapad 1i

Lenovo Ideapad 1i

which you will find a one megapixel 720p webcam which is good enough to make it look a Minecraft character though I wouldn't use it for your dating needs with that said though you do get a built-in privacy shutter so that's gotta account for something right the display quality is arguably the least impressive part of this machine though that's kinda expected

I suppose so starting with the good stuff you have a full HD resolution or 1920x1080p which is actually an upgrade from last year 720p base display you also have a 60 hertz refresh rate a 16x9 aspect ratio you have a pretty high quality IPS panel here with great viewing angles now for the gloomy stuff

you have a peak brightness just 220 nits that means means that in bright settings or daylight settings your screen will be plagued by glare as there's just not enough brightness to compensate for it

so do be wary of that now on a more gloomier note you have a 45 ntsc rating or approximately 56 srgb meaning colors will look like they've died on this machine needless to say you should not be doing color sensitive activities like photo or video editing though it'll be fine for General use like web browsing.

Performance:

Let's quick talking  about Performance as well I need you guys to understand something this is a Intel Pentium silver processor this thing is designed to do as little work as possible and that's not an insult I just mean that's its true capacity so if you're doing stuff like web browsing writing up Word document checking out the news it's going to be just fine it's designed for that kind of stuff

But if you're gonna try to use this laptop in its mere four gigabytes of RAM to do stuff like let's say benchmarking photo editing programming in in most cases it's just not possible this laptop will choke up lag and ultimately just not do those kind of tasks if you are trying to

buy this laptop for any of the activities I mentioned or let's say for even casual gaming do not do that this laptop is at for a very basic and standard use case so keep that in mind on that note as far as thermals go let's say you're watching full HD videos on the web you can hit a maximum average surface temperature of Just Around 32 degrees Celsius

which isn't too shabby given the fact that you have no active cooling or basically no cooling fan on this machine though it won't go much higher than that and will immediately thermal throttle.

Speaker's:

Lenovo Ideapad 1i
Lenovo Ideapad 1i

if you try doing anything more intensive with a 45 watt hour battery you'll get around seven and a half hours of real world battery time on a single charge as far as speaker quality goes it's actually not bad so you have bottom firing speakers like I mentioned earlier here's a quick sound.

3-HP Stream 14

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

we're looking at the hp stream 14. this one's the walmart exclusive model number 14-cb171wm it retails for 219 dollars features an intel celeron n4020 processor 4 gigabytes of ram 64 gigabytes of emmc storage 14 inch hd screen and you also get an intel hd graphics card fy this whole review or most of it's gonna be recorded with the iphone 12 pro max running at 4k at 30 frames per second.

Design:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

Let's get started the design of the hp stream 14 looks pretty stylish it comes in a 3.17 pounds and it feels pretty durable it's hard any kind of display flex look at this let me show you the keyboard as well see hard any kind of flex pretty well built machine for its price point let's look at the bottom here oh by the way it weighs 3.17 pounds.

Processor:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

In my opinion Processor this laptop features the intel celeron n4020 which is a standard dual core processor running at 1.1 gigahertz with a single core burst up to 2.8 gigahertz now this is a standard processor meant for light duty web browsing multi-tasking word processing just don't expect crazy performance out of it.

Ports:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

Take a look at the port on the left side the hp stream 14 starting from the left you got your security lock slot hdmi most likely a regular hdmi i doubt it's hdmi 2.0 two usb 3.0 a standard usb 2 headset microphone jack combo

sd card reader and your power status led indicator towards the back just nothing back here now let's go to the right side of the laptop all you guys your power ac power charging port and the status led indicator.

Trackpad:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

This laptop features an elon track pad i kind of wish they went with the windows precision track pad however at this price point you can't nitpick too much with that being said two fingers scrolling multi-touch and gestures were pretty on point i didn't have any issues.

Screen:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

This laptop features a 14 inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768 so it's an hd screen that's also glossy so it can be kind of glossy again especially when towards bright window or lighting let me show you guys a sample besides that this screen is actually pretty decent at this price point color

c is decent well i would say a little bit less than average but that's kind of expected at this price point let me show you guys here how far it goes down that's maximum let me do a side angle test here let's look at the viewing angles pretty decent viewing angles as well.

Specs:

Hp Stream 14
Hp Stream 14

some of the specs on this laptop and the features your text quality is not too bad either the 64 gigabyte emmc flash storage is pretty quick in my opinion compared to standalone traditional hard drive for the read speed you're getting 308 megabytes a second and for the right speed you're getting 188 megabytes a second

next up is battery performance hp claims you can get up to 11 hours of usage but i've yet to seen that figure they probably tested that with the screen on super low and video playback over and over

however in my real world testing i got around six to seven half hours on usage that's with light web browsing word processing netflix youtube here and there now your usage may vary it's just depending on the applications you're using and what you're planning on doing with it.

4-ASUS Chromebook Flip C433

i have something special for you seriously this laptop it's kind of average but at the same time it's so unique at this price point ofcourse.

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

Weight & Thickness:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

it is a 360 degrees flexible laptop so you can use it also as a tablet  this thing is extremely thin and light it's only 16.5 millimeters thickness and 1.5 grammes of weight This laptop is so small and light that it fits easily in your backpack.

Design:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

it looks fantastic it's so minimalistic and so business and premium kind of style since i wear a suit pretty often i really respect that type of laptop's designer style direction.

Ports:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

This asus chromebook still has all the ports you need it has a regular usb type a and it's fast two usb type c ports micro sd card reader and They added a volume control button and a power button on the left side of this device in addition to an audio jack because it converts into a tablet.

Screen:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

we definitely have something crazy to look at here the screen is a 14 inch full hd ips touch panel and look at those bezels it's insane how thin they are on the other hand the screen brightness is definitely not the best here 180 nits however the colors and the view angles are great.

Cpu, Ram Storage:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

Talking about cpu we got a dual core four threats intel core m3 with the base frequency at 1.1 gigahertz and in turbo boost mode it can reach up to 3.4 gigahertz we also got 8 gigabytes ddr3 ram and fast 64 gigabytes emmc storage here both of them are not expandable or replaceable keep that in mind.

Battery Life:

This machine provides amazing 8-9 hours of work from a single charge in a mixed usage and just watching movies online will get you about 10 to 11 hours.

webcam:

The webcam because i know this quarantine has definitely made some noise and a lot of us have to attend online video conferences so we need a good camera right and this laptop features one that is in HD quality, ensuring your appearance at all times.

Keyboard:

Asus Chromebook Flip C433
Asus Chromebook Flip C433

it's full size it's backlit the key travel distance and tactile response are just perfect as you might know i'm a macbook user and with this keyboard it's almost as pleasant to work as with my macs.

5-Hp Omen 15

This is the hp omen 15 and here's the thing as a reviewer you start to build these expectations for brands and products of what you think the product will be like of what you think it should be like before the product even comes out like you know

Hp Omen 15
Hp Omen 15
You know an apple macbook is gonna be expensive and it's gonna run a little hot and the same thing goes with hp omen stuff like you know over the years They simply don't produce extremely high-performance machines that run cool, at least not during the five or six years that they have been introducing hp omens to the market.

This year's a little bit different this is the omen 15 for 2020 and they changed so much stuff like we we just got to go in so this is a machine that comes in two variants an amd version and an intel version now people always ask me why do you get the intel version dave don't you like ,  Are you an ardent supporter of cognitive ability?

if you're gonna review a product particularly for one that has questionable thermal performance in the past you're gonna get the hottest configuration you want the one that has the highest risk of not performing properly so it's an intel version and it's a high spec intel version to get these things as hot as possible because if these things underperform here

Now you know because if i got like a a ryzen version and it got like a low end gpu if it performs great you have no idea how good the the hot ones are going to run right you get it okay this is the fully specced out intel version.

Performance:

Let's just jump into performance it has excellent performance the components are very powerful so it pushes out great frame rates and games and thermally Throttling is not present. The machine is just fine, with suitable temps and minimal fan noise.

As a result, unlike HP, who have had their entire HP lineup for years, they have never had a device that was as effectively cooled as this. There is no way to truly set these fans down far enough to achieve perfect silence when they are idle, which is my only criticism with the thermal system.

So that they're inaudible like the fan is on right now the mic is picking it up ever so slightly right you can probably hear it it's not annoying but if you work in an environment or you have some kind of work which requires a completely silent system this ain't going to be it but aside from that thermally it's on point.

Design:

I'm just going to the design of this thing because they revamped the exterior of this thing as well this year It now has a diamond on the front of the laptop that is a bluish-green gradient fade. This diamond is highly noticeable, as you can tell if you look at it.

Hp Omen 15
Hp Omen 15

If you are familiar with your laptop, this is an HP omen, but it's also not overly annoying; it isn't a glowing one that lights up.I feel like some people are going to despise this since it's subtle enough, at least to me.

But i personally like it i think this is something that sets it apart from thousands of other laptops out there but at the same time it's not annoying It has an unified chassis with a metal build with metal on the top, keyboard deck, unibody chassis, and bottom.

Build Quality:

There is a couple issues i have in terms of the kind of build quality the hinge i would say is a little looser than i'd like like the screen hinge when you lift it up and down it's got a little more play than i'd like to not like a wobble but i just feel like the hinges should be slightly tighter but there's also this issue

Hp Omen 15
Hp Omen 15

where on the side of the laptop on this yeah you can see it here the screen on a laptop rests on the keyboard deck when it's closed right and on the actual palm rest area there is material there so that when you close it it rests on that palm rest area but on the back half of that screen there's nothing holding that screen up like there's nothing supporting it

So let's say you do lift your laptop up like you want to pick up to go somewhere if you grab it on the front here it's no problem you're pushing down on it and the palm rest area is supporting it but if you pick it up on the back half of it there's this weird flex that just happens to be there i don't like it i don't know if that's going to affect the longevity or the durability of the screen,

Because it's not like you're cranking it hard but i just feel like it was a bit of a design miss when they built this thing i just wish it wasn't there because otherwise the build on this thing is fantastic

The port selections are excellent. You have two display outputs in addition to the standard USB connectors, an SD card slot, and an ethernet jack and there's also a third like they have a dongle that they include so there's technically three video outputs on this machine if you so choose so it's a healthy dose of ports.

Display:

Hp Omen 15
Hp Omen 15

I usually steer clear of 4K panels on laptops, especially gaming laptops, because I prefer high refresh, and often they don't come in high refresh. However, this comes in 120 hertz and supports g-sync, so it's very fast, very smooth, bright, and has great colours.

I really appreciate this screen now that it has been enhanced, therefore if I had to pick just one to suggest to everybody, it would be that first upgrade so 1080p 144 hertz very easy recommendation it's not super expensive but it gives like great gaming experiences you want that faster refresh.

Keyboard:

Hp Omen 15
Hp Omen 15

The keyboard this is an excellent layout i feel like this is like the model keyboard layout for a laptop nice clean arrow key clusters and dedicated page up page down keys the fact that they are in such an obvious location and that the layout is identical to that of a standard desktop keyboard explains why it is so good.

But they're responsive i think most people really enjoy using this keyboard now the lighting comes in a few variants this is the fully upgraded one like it's got per key rgb the base model comes in a fully red like only red lighting and if you pay 10 bucks you can get four zone so pay the 10 bucks i feel like you'll regret it otherwise.

Trackpad:

The trackpad is okay like the gestures and tracking are fine it's glass surface very smooth i like it but the mechanism for the click is it feels sluggish almost like not as responsive as i'd like it to be i think it's just the button underneath.

Laptop Inside:

if you take a look at the insides the first thing i noticed was the significantly improved thermal system this year it now vents out the back and one of the sides the previous omens have always vented out the back and often times not enough of it but now it's got bigger fans three big heat pipes this thing is done well there's two ram slots two nvme bays and a 70 watt hour battery.

Battery Life:

In this unit i have a 4k panel i'm getting three and a half hours of battery life i feel like Given how powerful the system is, if you had the 1080p panel, you may expect it to last for about four or four and a half hours.

But that is what we have for battery life and then the speakers on the side they are classically mediocre as you'd expect on a gaming laptop.
